The Essay Writing Process

The pri­ma­ry goal of essay wri­ting is to com­mu­ni­ca­te tho­ughts and opi­nions in a con­ci­se, cle­ar way. An essay is a pie­ce of wri­ting that expres­ses the autho­r’s views. Howe­ver the defi­ni­tion could be con­fu­sing and inc­lu­de a report or essay or novel, poem, short sto­ry, or a report. The tra­di­tio­nal essay can be clas­si­fied as either infor­mal or for­mal. For­mal essays are that are writ­ten for aca­de­mic pur­po­ses and requ­ire the use of cor­rect gram­mar and punc­tu­ation. The infor­mal essays are to be used for fun or for per­so­nal expression. 

We now know what an essay is and what kinds of essays can be used for. It is also impor­tant to know how to struc­tu­re an essay. The struc­tu­re of an essay can be very com­plex or sim­ple. Some stu­dents like to begin the­ir essays by tel­ling a sto­ry abo­ut them­se­lves, or a brief ove­rview of the topic. Then , they arran­ge the­ir argu­ments accor­ding to this struc­tu­re. The­re are four major kinds of essay writing. 

First, the medium thro­ugh the man­ner in which the essay was ori­gi­nal­ly writ­ten is what is the basis of it. The clas­sic essay usu­al­ly takes the form of a deba­te betwe­en either oppo­sing sides or betwe­en the wri­ter and the reader. For instan­ce, essays writ­ten for the Mon­ta­igne­an sty­le tend to be pola­ri­zing, deba­te-like, and heavi­ly argu­men­ta­ti­ve. On the other hand, essays on poli­tics tend to be more focu­sed on the role and influ­en­ce of leaders, the­ir per­so­nal sty­les and the­ir power. 

Expo­si­to­ry essays are the 2nd kind of essay wri­ting. This type of essay uses one or more prin­ci­pal ide­as to sup­port, argue, or expla­in the topic in a dif­fe­rent way. This kind of essay wri­ting requ­ires stu­dents to possess the tech­ni­cal know­led­ge requ­ired to argue the­ir case. They must pro­vi­de an elo­qu­ent descrip­tion of the­ir topic, inc­lu­ding all the rele­vant aspects. They sho­uld for­mu­la­te an unam­bi­gu­ous the­sis statement. 

The third kind of essay wri­ting is cal­led descrip­ti­ve wri­ting. This type of essay is desi­gned to inform and to express an opi­nion to sup­port of that infor­ma­tion. Stu­dents who cho­ose to wri­te this kind of essay typi­cal­ly employ per­so­nal sto­ries, per­so­nal anec­do­tes, or gene­ral descrip­tions of a spe­ci­fic sub­ject or event. Stu­dents who wri­te descrip­ti­ve wri­ting essays sho­uld use descrip­ti­ve words to ensu­re that the reader is con­fi­dent that they are able to pro­vi­de accu­ra­te conc­lu­sions and information. 

The fourth type of wri­ting is refer­red to as argu­men­ta­ti­ve wri­ting. Essays of this type are writ­ten to pro­ve, defend, or convin­ce the reader to an opi­nion. The essay­ists rare­ly dec­la­re the­ir opi­nions in the­ir wri­ting. They use descrip­ti­ve lan­gu­age to per­su­ade readers to think abo­ut a cer­ta­in side of a the subject. 

Nar­ra­ti­ve wri­ting is the last kind of essay wri­ting. This sty­le of wri­ting allows stu­dents to sim­ply wri­te a nar­ra­ti­ve abo­ut the spe­ci­fic event or topic. A nar­ra­ti­ve essay­’s pur­po­se is to convin­ce the reader that an event or topic is real and, as the name implies, is true. Altho­ugh the the­sis and argu­ment in the nar­ra­ti­ve essay may dif­fer howe­ver, it is usu­al­ly the sto­ry that leads the reader to a spe­ci­fic conclusion. 

Once a stu­dent has selec­ted a par­ti­cu­lar sty­le of essay wri­ting, he or she must deve­lop a rese­arch plan. A well-con­struc­ted plan for rese­arch will ensu­re that the infor­ma­tion con­ta­ined in the essay is accu­ra­te. The stu­dent must deter­mi­ne what rese­arch mate­rial will be used, how the essay will essays wri­ting be writ­ten, and how the essay will be com­po­sed. The rese­arch plan sho­uld be writ­ten cle­ar­ly and com­ple­te­ly. Befo­re you begin wri­ting your essay, it is a good idea for you to talk to your pro­fes­sor. This will help you gather facts rele­vant to your essay and also sup­port the pri­ma­ry idea of the essay.
